    CURRICULUM VITAE

To paint is my passion. I combine my painting with my fulltime work at Aarhus University Hospital where I work with people who suffer from eating disorders.

I have worked passionately with my painting for more than 20 years and dedicated myself to pursue the main topic of “home and homelessness in different environments and contexts”

I am educated in the field of graphic art and hold a Bachelor degree in social science. I have been painting for more than 20 years and have developed my painting skills through attending courses and supervision from painters such as Sven Suhr, Michael Isling, Søren Taaning, Frits Bro Pedersen, Max Parylewicz, Cai-Ulrich von Platen.

My paintings have been seen at 10 censured exhibitions recognized by the Danish State and have been exhibited at numerous private galleries, public offices, and private corporations.

    WRITTEN ABOUT ME:

On this beautiful planet, most people are homeless!

Homelessness is remarkably the topic of Herdis Jensen’s paintings. Most people find homelessness unbearable and the bare though of homelessness is very provocative.  However, one does not sense any provocation in Herdis’ paintings and no anxiety provoking extinction or desolation. The topic is presented in a very gentle and welcoming manner that stands in sharp contrast to the terrified thought of being homeless.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is Herdis Jensen’s intention to express the indefinable feeling of loneliness and desolation, while at the same time suggesting something meaningful, despite the disheartening presence of homeless individuals and homelessness in itself. Paradoxically, one might view something as being meaningful without necessarily understanding the meaning of it.

Herdis is inspired through her daily experience in social work, - a line of work that evokes thoughts and reflections and makes visible that other side of life: The lonely and vulnerable side, which is generally recognized by all.
