       MARIANNE LYKKEBERG

Udtrykker mig ekspressivt fabulerende i koloristiske rene, stærke farveflader, i malerier, akvareller glasmosaikker”

    (citat)  Journalist/forfatter Anne Wolden-Ræthinge,Ninka, Skodsborg 2011.

The art of Marianne Lykkeberg, English version :

    About the artist Marianne Lykkeberg:

Marianne Lykkeberg is born in 1952 in Denmark

She was educated at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts , 1979 - 1985, by/ Professor, sculptor Robert Jacobsen, Professor-Richard Winther- and Professor Dan Sterup Hansen.

The great Danish author Jytte Borbjerg claims about Marianne Lykkeberg's Art in Fjaltring, Denmark 2005:

" The images transmits codes and secret signals that confront me with what I yearn most, and what I fear the most, without daring to put it into words ."

Marianne Lykkeberg started her artistic career at the age of 14 to learn Egyptian tapestry by tapestry weawer- Tove Heymann in Lyngby, Denmark. Since Marianne could not move forward only with the colors expression, she went to the Glyptotek to learn classical drawing and painting craft by drawing naturalistic and ancient sculptures .Her art divided here into two different tracks: first, the bound , drawing tasks and then Marianne’s very own imaginative, original oil paintings and aquarelles.

Marianne Lykkeberg was educated at the Royal, Danish Academy of Fine Arts Copenhagen 1979-85 as a student of the world-renowned Professor, artist Robert Jacobsen. She has received many scholarship residences  in Denmark and in France. From 1992-2008,she was the leader of the cultural and exhibition venue Atelier Bro, where more than 100 fine artists have exhibited and ditto classical musicians from  all around the world have given concerts ..She won the second prize for her logo to COP15 in Copenhagen, Denmark 2009.

Marianne Lykkeberg tells  about her life as an artist:

“In interaction between reality and myth, story and light, I try as an observational and reflective modern individual to express my strong sensory inputs and picturesque manifestations on the canvas. In the paintings I am struggling in a life- and death process, where the contradictions: light and darkness, love and hate, faith and doubt ,and hope and despair, changes.” When inspiration hits me, I am going to the depts of painting, and I follow  the subconscious and usually move through unexperienced waters.

In the last 20 years, in the summer I have chosen to stay and paint by the coast of the rough North Sea .From this area derives many of my maritime world paintings that imaginatively fantasizes about the human race existence. I also and  paint the countryside in the uttermost sea. I also do musical pictures inspired by classic masters compositions, human landscapes often with mythological subjects and from events at our time and history, as well as daily life still leben, animals and bird motifs, portraits, model studio pictures , calligraphies and religious motives.

In the last 10 years I have also focused on making stained glass windows and is  receiving a scholarship to experience with stained glass and double glazing from the world-famous, Danish factory Velux.”

Mosaic window-glass art in everyday architecture.

In Denmark it is very limited what is preserved of old lead windows and stained glass window. The craftsmanship and crafts have gradually disappeared from our ordinary buildings. Artist Marianne Lykkeberg has developed a concept that reintroduces the artistic glass window by inserting glass mosaic in modern energy windows. She believes in the renaissance of craft and art in general residential and commercial construction.

    Text and photo: Linette Bekhøi-

Article from 'GLAS' Danish glazier guild's magazine )The project window mosaics started quite by accident, when Marianne Lykkebergs neighbourg had some old dotted ter-sealed energy windows below. After working with painting, but also with glass for many years, she got the idea to try to embed glass reliefs in the windows. Marianne began to experiment and explore new opportunities, and in November 2012, she was standing with two prototypes in the hands. Thrilled with the result and uplifted by the perspectives of the concept are now working diligently from the little studio in Hellerup to further develop and disseminate the idea and establish contacts with architects and glass people, who see the same potential in developing the concept.

Windowmosaics- a new invention by Marianne Lykkeberg where colour and movement is sent  into the rooms:

Coloristic glass mosaics can bring light, color and movement into the room. Daylight plays in irregularity in the glass and enter into dialogue with the space. Window mosaics forming color stories and contribute to an uplifting atmosphere where people are staying and going every day,. "My mosaics are an innovative suggestion for a boost to daylight-atmosphere and the problem of irretation of overheating in new construction",explains Marianne Lykkeberg.

    The technique

The motif occurs by melting the colored and clear glass pieces of the so-called Bullseye glass, which is particularly well suited to melt together homogeneously. The technique Marianne user called tack fusing where  one relief drapes where they carved stained glass pieces placed in the selected pattern on a clear 3 mm glass. The furnace is heated to 760 degrees and cooled slowly over a 18-20 hours. It is important that the glass pieces will not melt completely together so that the edges of the glass are maintained and catch the light and remain a relief, a collage of glass.

    The adhesive is important

The relief sits inside of the outer glass pane and the inner pane glass has laid an energy coating that ensures that the pane has the necessary energy properties that are standard for windows today. The finished glass relief glued to the glass pane of tempered glass, and here experimenting with a clear two-component acrylic adhesive. "The adhesive is a crucial factor in the pane's life," explains Dan Christensen from termorudeproducent and glazing company Niels Juel Pedersen Naestved, which is entered in the project. "Due to the dark colors of the relief can cause high temperature differences in the glass. At the same time the relief is not flat like a plain piece of glass. The glue must be able to tie the mocaic to the hardened glass pane and simultaneously work on thenexpansion and movements that may occur due to temperature differences in the glasses. "

    Support from the Velux Foundation

Marianne's strenuous efforts were in the spring of 2014 a helping hand

From Velux Foundation, which allocated funds to develop and produce four window mosaics to a catalog, where she can present the specific subjects, that she likes to work with. Among other scenes with animals, the human face and geometric shapes.

The first reliefs, Marianne even made the West Seeland Artist Workshop VAK in Jyderup where artists can come and use the workshop facilities that they do not have personal access to. Eventually she would like to work with a glazier, who will perform the actual glass work. Niels Juel Pedersen helps Marianne making a total of 10 new stained glass windows, which will also experiments threw LED warm light light, so the windows come to life at night. "Art that is incorporated into the architecture, provides a strong identity, but we must dare to express and effect on humans. In Denmark, we are maybe a little afraid of colors and shapes that draws attention to itself, and which insists on a dialogue with us. But I think we need the power and the joy that lies in shapes, colors and materiality - not only as art on the walls and not only in our churches and cultural institutions, but in the framework that surrounds us in everyday life-our homes and jobs

The painting process of Marianne Lykkeberg:

About the painting process  Marianne Lykkeberg  says:” I would say that for me painting is a passion and a calling.Since I went to the Royal Danish Academy- art has been my work, and I paint every day all the year round. After many years as a professional artist, my artworks are still born by spontaneity and immediate colorism and narrative pleasure. You’ll find three layers of consciousness  in my artworks- first an immediate  spontaneous, - then an ideological narrative layer and at last an eksistentiel, very deep layer. At the moment I work with the Velux Foundation and the world -famous architect studio ‘Henning Larsen Architects’ and the design/glass firm 'Cricursa' in Barcelona, Spain to decorate new buildings with my invention stained glass double glazing windows with light”
